The Topps Company has been the foundation for the sports card trading industry since 1951, the year they produced their first baseball card set. The next year, 1952, they soared to the top of the sports trading card industry by introducing a baseball set rich in history. This 1952 Topps Set is now one of the more well-regarded and valued card sets of all time.

Topps has continued to produce baseball sets ever since, establishing the 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 standard card size and the information typically found on cards today. Topps baseball cards have been an institution unto themselves. In 1956 Topps purchased its primary competitor, the Bowman Company. Since then, almost all key rookie cards have come from the Topps packs of baseball cards.

Today, Topps continues to build on its illustrious tradition armed with new technologies and an unparalleled stable of brands. As sports card collecting exploded in the late 1980s/early 1990s new technologies and brands came to life. In 1989, Topps re-introduced the Bowman brand; in 1991 Stadium Club was introduced with its superior photography and reproduction; then in 1993 Topps introudced Finest Cards with the dazzling Chrome technology. The Topps Company is expected to continue to lead the sports trading card industry during the next few decades.
